The World Hip Hop Women project is back with 19 of the finest emcees in hip hop. Nomadic Wax, World Hip Hop Market and Dj LaJedi present, “World Hip Hop Women: SoundSIStem,” the second volume of the groundbreaking WHHW mixtape series. Representing 17 nations, these women in Volume 2 embody hip hop in a way that extends beyond the role of emcee. These artists are integral and evolutionary members of their respective communities. They are socio-political activists, journalists, fashion designers, cultural ambassadors, educators, b-girls, wives, partners, and mothers. “WHHW: SoundSIStem” gives you dancehall/reggae inspired hip hop from Canada, Brazil and USA, heavy bars from Detroit to South Africa, sexy island sounds plus neo-soul vibes from Mexico to the U.K. and hip hop soul from The Netherlands. The “World Hip Hop Women” mixtape series is a celebration of the feminine contribution to hip hop culture. WHHW are some of the most clever and fierce emcees in the game, period.

An aesthetically minimalist video, we see the two protagonists, M.anifest and his love interest reminisce on the vicissitudes of relationships - happy to sad to angry all over again. M.anifest plays an avant garde avid 8MM filmmaker who blurs the lines between life, love and art.

In other news, Method Man recently revealed that a new Wu-Tang album is being worked on in honor of their 20th anniversary. We can expect that project to be released later this year.

As members of the Beast Coast movement (which includes Joey Bada$$ and his Pro Era crew), The Underachievers are part of the new wave of rappers that have been coming out of New York. But they’re also repping the West: last summer the duo signed to Flying Lotus’ label in LA, Brainfeeder. ‘Indigoism’ marks the first Brainfeeder/Underachievers collaboration. Dropping February 1st, the 17-track mixtape features the duo’s underground hits (including ‘Gold Soul Theory,’ ‘Herb Shuttles’ and ‘Leopard Shepherd’), in addition to brand new tracks produced by the likes of Mr Bristol, Rich Flyer, The Entreproducers, Bruce Lee Kixxs, Juice and Lou Chapo from Tribe Gang, and Dreamrite. Listening to their sage lyrics, it’s hard to believe they’re only 21 (Ak) and 22 (Issa Dash) years old.
