Blu Give Me My Flowers While I Can Smell Them (With Exile)

Blu & Exile refers to an American hip-hop duo that consists of rapper Blu (Johnson Barnes) and hip-hop producer Exile (Aleksander Manfredi). They rose to their fame through the release of their first album in July 2007 called Below the Heavens. This album was dubbed as the continuation of hip hop legacies such as Jurassic 5 and Pharcyde and was given much praise.

Blu and Exile first met in the mid-2000s while Blu served as a hypeman for various hip-hop groups such as Slum Village, Platinum Pied Pipers, and Exile's own group, Emanon.^[2] He was personally introduced to Exile through Emanon's other member Aloe Blacc. Through that, Blu signed to Exile's independent label, Sound in Color, and a dynamic hip-hop collaboration was formed. Blu would cut records for Exile and they eventually released their laid back, soulful album which received a lot of buzz from the underground hip-hop scene. Since then, Blu & Exile has been a collaboration to keep up with.

27 Aout 2002-27 Aout 2013 nous quittait notre ami, frére, artiste Las Mc, je ne pourrai jamais oublier ce jour, tu m'as appelé plusieurs fois on devait travailler sur un projet et j'avais bougé à Ziguinchor, à mon retour le 26 Aout sur Dakar, je t'appelle le 27 Aout vers 17h et tout éxcité tu m'annonces que tu devais aller en tournée le lendemain et que fallait impérativement qu'on se voit, que tu avais des choses à régler et aprés que tu passes chez moi juste aprés timis et ça sera la derniére fois que je t'entendais et malheureusement je ne te verrai plus jamais, car juste aprés 20h on vient m'annoncer ton déces, pour la premiere fois je parle de ça car j'ai envie de me vider la téte donc j'écris car rare sont les personnes qui m'ont autant marqué, une phrase m'a toujours marqué quand je pense à lui un jour il me dit "Boy faut que ma tekki, jour bobou on devait aller au studio mais on avait pas de thune ,sama mére diokh ma béne tissu si you mou yorone pour ma diaye ko,si la meuné fey studio bi, non faut k ma tékki pour téral ko" mais le bon Dieu en avait décidé autrement, à ton enterrement j'ai pensé à cette phrase et j'ai jamais pris autant de temps à remettre d'un déces, un artiste vrai, simple et pieux comme j'en ai jamais croisé. I've been rhyming for over 20 years and appreciate any hip hop fan who respects lyrics. I already know my songs are not for everyone. They're not for the radio, the club or the masses. My music is for those who miss early '90s hip hop when pain and struggle were the dominant themes. From my days with Natural Elements, then Nightbreed, I've always tried to remain true to what I believe is the real spirit of hip hop. If you're going to rhyme, you should have something relevant and unique to say. I decided a long time ago that I would make music for the love of it. If you can make money from art, that's a beautiful thing. But money shouldn't be the reason you make art. You make art because you can't help it. I can honestly say there's not a day that goes by that lines don't come to me. My words are an extension of who I am and I was never willing to compromise that for anyone. Guess it's just that stubborn Brownsville knucklehead in me that could never let some A&R cat tell me how to rhyme! Lucky for me, the advancement of technology made it possible to create an album exactly how I wanted. No pressure to create a radio single. No one telling me how to flow. No instructions from people who know nothing about the creative process. After years of dreaming about making an album, I finally released one in 2008 and called it Iron Works. I use the word release loosely because my only intention was to give it to family and friends. One of those friends put it in GZA's hands and I got word that he liked it and that he'd even do a song with me. I was honored to hear that, but never really thought it would ever happen. Months later I get a phone call that he's in the studio and next thing you know I'm recording "Firehouse" for GZA's Pro Tools album. Since I don't depend on my music to eat, it's given me the freedom to have fun and not expect anything from it. I'm always surprised when people catch things I say in my songs. Almost everything I say has a double meaning and it's why more than likely you won't understand everything with just one listen. I craft my songs so that you pick up something new each time you hear it. My weapon is sharp now and I got books and books of ammo ready to let off. My Iron Works!

Biographie

Antwan Wiggins also known by his stage name “Awon" has distinguished himself as an emcee. Born on March 6, 1980 in Brooklyn, New York Awon was surrounded by culture. His earliest memories are of graffiti lined subway cars and DJ’s having jams in his neighborhood of Fort Greene. His influences were other prominent emcees of the Golden Era of Hip Hop like Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, and Slick Rick. In 1989 his family relocated to Newport News, Virginia.

As a teenager, Awon found himself immersed in an underground Hip Hop scene marked by smooth, jazzy production such as that of A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, and The Roots. Influenced by the culture, he was able to cultivate his own skills on the microphone and paid dues through various talent shows and showcases.

In 2006, AWON appeared as a feature on Canibus’s Hip Hop For Sale album on a track produced by Nottz. At the time, Awon was working with a crew, The Soul Students, on his debut album Beautiful Loser that was released on May 17, 2008 by Goon Trax Records in Japan.

Since then, Awon has been a figure in the new emerging Jazz Hop scene, working with close friend, Kameleon Beats to create distinctive sounds. Other collaborative efforts with producers such as Thomas Prime and Soul Chef were able to expand the sound to set a global presence. Currently, Awon is gearing up for a rerelease of Beautiful Loser in South Korea as well as a new album with Kameleon Beats, Brighter Days. Listeners can also expect a new album in the near future that will feature peers from within the Underground Hip Hop community.
