I’m not so twisted anymore
I’m looking for ribbons to bind my hair
I cant be the fairest of them all
I cant be so loose like Cinderella
I am not going to sugarcoat the witch hunt
I am not waiting to be rescued
I think I’m waiting to be born
But these days its not so twisted anymore
Because the villains and the princesses
They all get paid the same
The poets and the Princes
They all sound the same
Dreamy and twisted and far away from pleasure
Reckless and rebellious and far away from home
Looking for complicated ribbons and strings
to bind my tongue
but these days I’m not so twisted like a robe
I cant be too soft and thick
My skins gone thin against the bone

I've been rhyming for over 20 years and appreciate any hip hop fan who respects lyrics. I already know my songs are not for everyone. They're not for the radio, the club or the masses. My music is for those who miss early '90s hip hop when pain and struggle were the dominant themes. From my days with Natural Elements, then Nightbreed, I've always tried to remain true to what I believe is the real spirit of hip hop. If you're going to rhyme, you should have something relevant and unique to say. I decided a long time ago that I would make music for the love of it. If you can make money from art, that's a beautiful thing. But money shouldn't be the reason you make art. You make art because you can't help it. I can honestly say there's not a day that goes by that lines don't come to me. My words are an extension of who I am and I was never willing to compromise that for anyone. Guess it's just that stubborn Brownsville knucklehead in me that could never let some A&R cat tell me how to rhyme! Lucky for me, the advancement of technology made it possible to create an album exactly how I wanted. No pressure to create a radio single. No one telling me how to flow. No instructions from people who know nothing about the creative process. After years of dreaming about making an album, I finally released one in 2008 and called it Iron Works. I use the word release loosely because my only intention was to give it to family and friends. One of those friends put it in GZA's hands and I got word that he liked it and that he'd even do a song with me. I was honored to hear that, but never really thought it would ever happen. Months later I get a phone call that he's in the studio and next thing you know I'm recording "Firehouse" for GZA's Pro Tools album. Since I don't depend on my music to eat, it's given me the freedom to have fun and not expect anything from it. I'm always surprised when people catch things I say in my songs. Almost everything I say has a double meaning and it's why more than likely you won't understand everything with just one listen. I craft my songs so that you pick up something new each time you hear it. My weapon is sharp now and I got books and books of ammo ready to let off. My Iron Works!

Biographie
Mutombo, Accra's own spoken word artiste/poet/lyricist, emerged on the burgeoning alternative scene in 2006. He has since earned his stripes as a captivating performer, and has appeared on numerous platforms including "the Mentor Show", "Face of Legon" and other local/international media outlets including TV3, ViaSat1, DSTV, GTV, Joy FM, HITZ FM etc. Mutombo is also a resident poet at Mi Prime Entertainment's "Bless the Mic" Open Mic Series and the British Council's WAPI series. "Sweet Memories" is the 1st single from his debut album "PhotoSentences". Producers and Artistes contributing to the album include Kweku Ananse, M3NSA, Wanlov Da Kubolor, Panji Anoff, DJ Juls, Yaa Pono and Kwam1. "Photosentences" will be released in January 2011 by Pidgen Music. Mutombo's goal with "PhotoSentences" is to illustrate the visceral power of his words; laced over head nodding beats, to show young Ghanaians that Spoken Word/Poetry is alive, and to pave the way for local up and coming poets in search of inspiration.

Cynthia "Flowchyld" Marangwanda "Art Of Invisibility" (Harare - Zimbabwe)
Cynthia “Flowchyld” Marangwanda is a rising spoken-word poetry star from Zimbabwe. In her excellent spoken-word/ Hip Hop piece ‘Art of Invisibility‘ you can get a taste of her sharp mind and poetry. In the poem she is impressively destructing the general media portrayal of African women and then turning the piece into a celebration of African womanhood (see extract below). By the way: She is also nicely promoting Chimamanda Adichie‘s great novel ‘Purple Hibiscus‘. Cynthia Marangwanda has recently received international attention through her participation in the Poetry International Festival in the Netherlands. As proved in this poem she says her passion is “to empower,liberate and elevate girls and women through my spoken-word poetry and to be the poetic voice of my generation“.

in this world of mass media constructed images of a kind of beauty
most of Sub-Saharan Africa seems to lack
which means a darker skinned ethnic looking sister like me
is pretty much non-existent in the eyes of the global machine
except as the stereo-typical victim of poverty, disease and conflict
the concept of an intelligent, beautiful, natural African woman has to be a lie, a myth
because I can’t seem to find myself in your magazines, your movie scenes
your pictures dominate my vision
but in none of them do I find my own reflection
so I simply choose not to be there …“

Rabbit born as Kennedy Ombima in Eastlands Nairobi Kenya, 1987 in a family of 3 boys. He later joined Eastleigh High School where his passion for music grew each year.
Growing to Hip-Hop as the soundtrack to his life, he later followed the route. And a year after his high school completion he signed a 2year recording contract with Sneed Music [Dj Loop’s at that time]. Where he did the much hyped album ,'Tales Of kaka Sungura' which had hits such as 'jam nakam, the much talked about Dodoma ft Harry Kimani, Dreams and Prodigal Son' and guest appearances such as Abbas, Chiwawa, Zakaa, Anto-neosoul, Oddinary and more . The album a different sound of Hip Hop fused with deep lyrics, story based and a touch soul.
Rabbit is currently running an organization that deals with gender violence, child molestation, empowering the African child and mostly make people realize their dreams thus THE DREAMS CAMPAIGN.
Rabbit has been dubbed the new sensation, poet and one of the greatest storytellers of all times.

Slam Béninois On Afrihooop
Kmal fait du slam ( genre oratoire et poétique) depuis 2003.
Il est l' un des pionniers du slam béninois.Avec son compère de longue date Thibault ADOTANOU, il organise depuis 2005 des Scènes Libres Aux Mots (SLAM) pour permettre à d' autres jeunes de s' exprimer, de parler de leurs vécus quotidiens et des maux qui minent leur épanouissement.
Avec 9 autres slameurs béninois, Kmal forme le collectif 10 BP 229( 10 slameurs sur le boulevard des poètes du 229: Bénin ) pour partager ensemble la passion commune des mots et pour faire connaitre cet art de type nouveau dans un contexte socio culturel assez libéralisé au Bénin.
En 2010 avec le slameur en langue Fon Thibault ADOTANOU ,il réalise l' album L' Ecoute qui est soutenu et appuyé par l' Union Européenne. Cet album avait pour but essentiel d' inciter les pouvoirs publics à voter un budget pour l' enfance du pays
Mais c' est en 2012, sur l' initiative de l' organisme communautaire NO LIMIT GENERATION que Kmal écrit le Hit Continental ASSUME TA JEUNESSE , qui est un morceau d' éveil et d' engagement destiné à toute la jeunesse africaine.
Le clip du morceau fait le tour des télévisions béninoises, gabonaises, sénégalaises,togolaises, camérounaises et de la plupart des réseaux sociaux des plateformes communicationnelles de RFI, de la francophonie, et des sites web de promotion artistique de tout le continent, battant ainsi tous les records de vues .
L' artiste enchainera alors les interviews, les documentaires, les spectacles dans la sous région et partout ou il passe , laisse des messages d' éveil et d' engagement à la jeunesse africaine qui doit s'assumer et agir pour le développement du continent mère l' Afrique.
Il est aujourd'hui, une icône pour la jeunesse et les sans voix de son pays le Bénin
Il prépare pour l' été 2012 et grâce à l' appui d' un producteur indépendant, un maxi , avec des couleurs musicales très riches et variées qui ne laissera personne indifférent ..
